Tosca at the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santa Domingo in Bogotá, Colombia

This February, Mr. Smith makes a return to Colombia to perform the role of Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca at the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santa Domingo in Bogotá, a role which he performed there during the premiere of this Pedro Salazar production in 2021.

Tosca is a political thriller, set in Rome during the tumultuous Napoleonic wars. Premiered in 1900, this intense opera presents themes of love, despair and challenged fates. Mr. Smith’s performance of Cavaradossi at English National Opera earlier in the season was praised by Reaction, who claimed: “Smith has a sensitive inbuilt volume control. He ranged from ff to pp with huge skill, emphasising the psychological roller coaster he is riding.” On this occasion, Mr. Smith shares the stage with Martina Serafin as Floria Tosca and Fabián Veloz as Scarpia. Maestro Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia with the participation of the Children's and Youth Choirs of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra.

The performances take place on 24th and 26th February. Tickets and more information can be found here.
